Job Summary:
 
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for R&D activities related to small appliance product testing and evaluation to meet the needs of the consumer. The Laboratory Technician is responsible for maintaining an effective communication link between the product design teams and Lab Manager.  It is important that the Laboratory Technician can develop technical knowledge of system/sub-system level testing, and ability to influence all levels of organization and to maintain and develop lab processes and procedures to ensure product compliance to energy and safety standards and to ensure continuous improvement of efficiency of each laboratory. The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for laboratory maintenance and calibration, as well as participating in innovation sessions, root cause analysis and will participate in and work on mechanical design projects as required by the team.
 
 
Essential Job Responsibilities:
 
  • Lead in testing and evaluation of small appliances and develop maintenance, operating and test procedures for both lab equipment and to develop test procedures.
  • Work closely with design team and laboratory manager to ensure test procedures are compliant with regulatory standards and internal quality processes.
  • Conduct standardized testing, develop key process indicators with input and output monitors to drive product compliance and facilitate consumer satisfaction.
  • Partner with product technical experts to ensure test parameters correlate with customer expectations.
  • Maintain a testing dashboard and develop and ongoing audit process for corrective action and drive continuous improvement.
  • Maintain laboratory consumables.
  • Contribute to mechanical design in the development of product innovation
  • Actively participate in technical project reviews: particularly Service, Safety, and Installation reviews.
  • Work cross functionally with various internal and external engineering groups to collaborate on project work.
  • Conduct laboratory tests and analysis on a variety of products.
  • Implement projects and special assignments as required.
  • Initiate problem solving and conduct root cause analysis.

Qualifications:

Job Skills:
 
  • Hands on ability to prototype.
  • Good Communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Good problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks appropriately.
  • A self-starter and self-disciplined in accomplishing tasks.
  • Strong desire to learn with ability to be self-taught.
Desired/preferred skills sets:
 
  • Hands on Mechanical experience.
  • Knowledge of how an appliance operates.
Preferred Experience:
 
  • Mechanical technical certificate or mechanical technician degree program.
  • Work as a technical lab technician or service technician with 2-5 yrs. experience.
  • Demonstrated Excel and PowerPoint analysis experience.
 
Required Education: 
 
  • High School graduate.
